Cell Description: Hamster ovary
Culture medium: Hams F12 + 10% FBS
Subculture routine: Split confluent cultures 1:4 to 1:10 ie. seeding at 1-2 x 10.000 cells/cm² using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% C0₂; 37°C.
Morphology: Epithelial Karyotype: 2n = 22; hypodiploid, modal No 20

Comments: A subclone of parent line CHO which was derived from the ovary of an adult Chinese hamster. Cells require proline due to the absence of the gene for proline synthesis. They undergo morphological changes in response to cholera toxin.

Applications: Nutritional and gene expression studies.
