Cell Description:                 Human foetal lung

 

Culture medium:                      EMEM with EBSS, sodium bicarbonate, 2 mM L-glutamine, 1,0 mM sodium pyruvate and 1% NEAA + 10% FBS

Subculture routine:                 Split confluent cultures 1:2 to 1: 4 i.e. seeding at 2 x 104 to

4 x 104 cells/cm2  using 0,25% trypsin or trypsin / EDTA;

Incubate at 5% CO2, 37¡C

Morphology:                            Fibroblast

Karyotype:                              2n = 46; diploid

Comments:                              Established from normal lung tissue of a 14 week old male foetus.

Mortality:                                 The cells undergo between 60-70 population doublings before senescence.

Virus Susceptibility                 Is similar to WI-38

Sterility:                                   Tests for Mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi were negative
