Cell Description: Human kidney

Culture medium: McCoy`s 5a medium with sodium bicarbonate, 2 mM L-glutamine, 1,0 mM sodium pyruvate, 90%; FBS, 10%

(Alternatively, DMEM / Ham`s F12 medium)

Subculture routine: Remove medium, rinse with fresh 0,025% trypsin solution, remove trypsin and let the culture sit at room temperature (or 37°C) until the cells detach (about 10 minutes). Add fresh medium, aspirate and dispense into new flasks.

Subculture: every 4 to 6 days

Split Ratio: 1:3 to 1:6

Fluid Renewal: 2 to 3 times weekly

Morphology: epithelial, cytokeratine 8, 18, 19 vimentin

Growth Properties: monolayer

Karyotype: 2n = 46

Tumorgenetic: no

Comments: Established from a 60 year old caucasian male, 1998

Sterility: Tests of mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi were negative
