Cell Description: Human foetal lung

Culture medium: Minimum essential medium (Eagle) with Hanks' BSS, sodium bicarbonate, 2 mM L-glutamine, 1,0 mM sodium pyruvate, 0,1mM non-essential amino acids and 10% fetal bovine serum

(optional: DMEM with 4,5 g/l glucose)

Subculture routine: Split confluent cultures 1:3 to 1:6 i. e. seeding at 2-4 x 10⁴ cells/cm² using trypsin EDTA; incubate at 5% CO₂, 37°C.

Morphology: Fibroblast

Karyotype: 2n =46; diploid except at high passage number

Comments: From normal embryonic lung of female. Have broadest human virus spectra, useful for isolation of rhinoviruses.

Description: This cell line is a SV40-transformed variant of the Wi38 cell line.
