The I.A.Z. was set up in Munich at the end of 1981 to make cell and
tissue culture based in vitro models available to the industry,
in order to replace, reduce and refine animal experiments.
The need for utmost drug safety caused a great number of laws and
regulations to subject the increasing number of products to rigurous
toxicological and pharmaceutical testing.
Due to further developments in cell and tissue culture techniques,
in vitro assays haved been adopted into many routine applications
in progressive laboratories. In vitro methods using human cells offer
two advantages:
1. higher transferability and validity of the findings
2. higher economic efficiency
Our objective is to offer reasonable, efficient and individually
adaptable validation systems to manufacturers of remedies, chemicals,
biomaterials (e.g. contact lenses, intraocular lenses, prostheses,
implants etc.) and cosmetics.
Furthermore, we carry out all kinds of quality controls (e.g. growth
assays, cloning and selection of cell types, cytotoxicity assays,
etc.) on behalf of manufacturers of sera, media, disposable items
and additives for cell and tissue culture.
We organize general and specialized cell culture courses several
times every year.
